Chinese-speaking Qld detective awarded

Queensland's first ever Chinese-speaking detective has received an honorary award from a university language institute.

Detective Senior Constable Chun Yuen Shawn Chia, who joined the Queensland Police Service in 2007 and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin, was given a University of Queensland Confucius Institute award last week for his contribution to the Chinese community.

"The support and encouragement of my colleagues and bosses has been instrumental to achieving my detective's appointment," the Chinese-born officer said.
