Child rapist fails 'excessive' appeal bid

Queensland child rapist Jason Daron Mizner has failed in a bid to appeal his prison sentence for repeatedly assaulting a two-year-old girl on the grounds it was excessive.

The result means Mizner will have spent 26 years in continuous custody across two countries before he is eligible for parole.

Last year he pleaded guilty to 65 child sex offices, of which more than 30 were rape.

He had spent about 11 years in a Thai prison before being arrested on his return to Australia, where he was later sentenced to 19 years' jail.

Mizner, who videotaped the assaults, unsuccessfully argued the sentence didn't properly take into account the time he spent in prison overseas.

On Friday, the Queensland Court of Appeal refused his application for leave to appeal the sentence.

The two-year-old girl's mother found Mizner's recordings.

"I only watched a portion and it has been a battle to get the vision of your offending out of my head," District Court Judge Leanne Clare said in sentencing Mizner last year.

"I cannot imagine the horror of it for (the girl's) mother."
