A 37-year-old man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being mauled at the 7th Brigade Park in Chermside shortly after 6pm on Friday.

He suffered injuries to his face, arms and legs.

The attack sparked a dramatic search operation, with the police helicopter involved as officers swept the surrounding streets.

The first dog was found in the front yard of a home just before 8pm.

A member of the public tipped off police to the second dog found sleeping on the back deck of a home at 9am on Saturday.

Evans spoke to 9News on Saturday afternoon, saying her dogs were protective of her but insisting they had never been aggressive.

Brisbane City Council confirmed the dogs had not been previously declared dangerous.

“They’ll bark if you proceed to come in, (if) they feel like harm’s gonna be done to me or my partner then they will proceed to protect, but, apart from that, they’re really good dogs,” Evans said.

She says the dogs had been left in the tent where she lives as she went out for dinner with a friend, but somehow the pets escaped.

“The police told me, finally, that apparently they had got through the roof of the tent and then tore a hole, and that’s how that big hole ended up there,” Evans told 9News.

“And from there had proceeded to protect the campsite, I guess.

“My mother rung me to say she was with the police … and I had to come down, had to come down and try to find my dog.

“I walked all over town, I walked over the park, couldn’t find them anywhere

“Shattered, I’m shattered to bits.”

Minutes after speaking to 9News, police arrived and arrested Evans.

She had not been charged but remained in police custody.

The victim’s condition has improved and he was listed as stable on Saturday night.

It’s believed the dogs had been shot by police but managed to survive. The council is expected to seek a destruction order as soon as possible.
