CCC drops Acland donations complaint

Queensland's corruption watchdog has decided not to pursue claims political donations influenced the green-lighting of an open-cut coal mine northwest of Toowoomba.

Anti-mining group Lock the Gate Alliance lodged the complaint in August alleging Acland mine proponent New Hope Corporation and its parent company donated about $950,000 to the Liberal Party during a period in which the Newman government reversed its opposition to the project's stage-three expansion.

But the Crime and Corruption Commission on Friday revealed it would not investigate the matter further having completed its own initial assessments.
