A carnival worker has died while working on dodgem cars at a show in Queensland.

Police believe the man, in his 40s, was electrocuted while working on the ride at Chinchilla Show this afternoon.

Witnesses told WIN News Toowoomba they saw the man jump from car to car before he fell to the ground.

Off-duty medical personnel who were at the showgrounds performed CPR on the man before he was taken to Chinchilla Hospital, the Chinchilla News reports.

Today was the first day of the show.

Police said detectives will prepare a report for the coroner.
