Cabbie punched and robbed on Gold Coast

Police are seeking five men after a taxi driver was punched in the head and robbed on the Gold Coast.

The 30-year-old cabbie had picked up the men but stopped his cab on 23rd Avenue in Palm Beach at around 6.40pm on Saturday when one of them grabbed personal items of his from the front of the car.

Police say the driver was then punched a number of times to the head before the group fled with his wallet and a sum of cash.

The offenders, who were all described as being Caucasian, were last seen running towards the Gold Coast Highway.

The driver sustained minor injuries.
