Cab driver 'punched in the head' in Qld

A Cairns taxi driver has been punched in the head twice by a teen who smashed up the front of his cab with a wine bottle, police say.

It's alleged a 19-year-old man stole some wine from a Woree bottleshop on Thursday night and threatened two employees at another liquor outlet before attacking the cabbie.

He allegedly used the wine bottle to hit the front of the cab and then punched the 62-year-old driver during a scuffle.

The teen has been charged with two counts of assault and one count each of serious assault and stealing and will face court later this month.
