Burglar made a splash on Gold Coast

A man who frightened an elderly woman when she found him in her Queensland home has been found by police - soaking wet from head to foot.

Police believe the woman startled the alleged intruder when she found him inside her Southport home about 4.30am on Friday and he fled in a hurry.

Officers called to the address located him a short time later, sopping wet after he fell into a swimming pool while trying to escape.

It's alleged he broke into seven properties in the area, stealing jewellery and computers.

Police allege three suitcases full of stolen property and a shotgun were found nearby.

The man has been remanded in custody to face Southport Magistrates court on Saturday, charged with seven offences including four counts of burglary.
