Bull with two faces sold at Qld yard

No bull - a beast that appears to have two faces has been sold at a saleyard in far north Queensland.

Pictures of the bull, which has an extra snout and forehead, have been shared more than a thousand times online after being posted on Facebook by a yard in Mareeba, near Cairns.

Yard chairman Gerry Collins says a genetic variation caused the deformity, which created quite a stir when the bull was sold on Tuesday.

"Sometimes the genetic engineering doesn't quite work according to plan," he told AAP.

Mr Collins said he was not surprised when he saw the animal because he has seen others with two faces or extra limbs during his 30 years as a cattleman.

"There was a fair bit of curiosity and interest but I don't know whether there was a lot of interest in a commercial sense," he said.

The bull is able to live a normal life and can chew its food easily. However, exposed areas on its face attract flies.

"There's nothing wrong with it as far as the animal is concerned," Mr Collins said.

He could not say who had bought the bull or for what purpose.
