Brisbane fuel price drop ahead of holidays

Fuel prices in Brisbane have plunged ahead of the start of the spring school holidays, but Queensland's peak motoring body says it's still too expensive.

On Friday the average price for petrol in the greater Brisbane area was 116.8 cents per litre, up to 5 cents per litre cheaper than on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

The RACQ says with that in mind, anyone travelling from Brisbane for the school holidays should fill up the tank before they set off.

But RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said despite the drop, southeast Queensland motorists were still paying too much at the pump.

"Unfortunately Brisbane motorists are used to being charged too much at the bowser, higher on average than Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth for the last four months," she said.
