A man who towed a trailer during morning peak hour has been slammed for dangerous driving.

Trevor Boevink was filmed driving on Brisbane’s Western Freeway with sparks flying from the trailer which was loaded with turf.

9NEWS followed Mr Boevink for around 10 kilometres as stunned onlookers called police, describing his behaviour as "idiotic."

Boevink eventually pulled into his house with the trailer on fire and used a neighbour’s hose to douse the flames.

He told 9NEWS he didn't believe his actions were dangerous: "It was riding on the rubber. It wasn't a great risk. It was rubber on bitumen except for the last kilometre, that was probably a mistake."

This afternoon, Queensland Police released a statement confirming they had received a complaint.

“We can confirm that police are aware of this incident and Indooroopilly Road Policing Unit are investigating the matter.”
