AFL club backs down on plans to use real-life lion as a mascot

The Brisbane Lions have listened to their fans, and a resounding roar of disapproval has seen the club shelve plans to parade a real-life lion at the Gabba next season.
Leaked plans were met with a social media backlash yesterday, forcing the AFL club to clarify and defend their bold idea.
But Brisbane chief executive Greg Swann today admitted the Lions would pursue other ideas to generate a special game-day experience for fans.
"After considering the strong public reaction to the suggestion of having a real lion at our home games next season, the club today took the decision to not pursue the idea," he said.
"We listen to our members on all issues and in this case they have told us its a no-go, and we respect that.
"I'd like to re-iterate that the idea was only ever one of a number of initiatives discussed as part of planning for the 2015 season."
