Brave mother tells how she stood up to car-jacker who pointed gun in her face

A Queensland mother of three has broken her silence over the terrifying moment a car-jacker allegedly pointed a gun at her head in an attempt to steal her car last week.

Two men were arrested on Thursday following a dangerous high-speed chase which began near Brisbane and came to a dramatic conclusion with a highway shoot-out in NSW.

Both have been charged by NSW Police with attempted murder and will face more charges from Queensland authorities.

In an exclusive interview with 9NEWS, Kristi Hatton said she stood up to the man and his co-accused, demanding her daughter's safety during the chilling ordeal.

"He said 'I'm taking your car, get out of your car, I'm taking your car' and I'm just screaming 'my baby, my baby'," she said.

"I couldn't really comprehend how does this happen to someone? You never think it would happen to yourself."
