Gold Coast police are investigating after the body of a heavily tattooed man was found washed up on South Stradbroke Island this morning.

The body was found by locals about 2km north of the Gold Coast Seaway at 7.30am.

Police said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was wearing long black pants.

The man’s body was also covered in tattoos.

His identity remains unknown to police and they believe the body had been in the water for about a week.

The body has been removed from the island and will be taken back to the Gold Coast today via boat.
