Five months after three people drowned in rough seas when their boat overturned off the NSW coast, the battered remains of the catamaran has been found floating off Queensland.

Two men, aged 67 and 78, and a woman, 78, died when the 11.7-metre catamaran capsized in 30-knot winds about 13 nautical miles off Stockton Beach, Newcastle, on July 11.

A 16-year-old girl and her 50-year-old father survived. They were found clinging to the boat's upturned hull in a two-metre swell.

Both were treated in hospital for hyperthermia.

The barnacle-covered vessel was spotted on Friday floating off North Stradbroke Island, near Brisbane, 750 kilometres north of where it went down.
