Bindi Irwin awarded sustainability honour

Bindi Irwin has been recognised by her home state for her work promoting sustainability with Australia Zoo's Wildlife Warriors.

The late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's 17-year-old daughter was awarded the inaugural Young Achiever's Award at the Premier's Sustainability Awards in Brisbane on Thursday night.

"I'm delighted that Bindi Irwin, who has done so much to inspire others, is the first recipient," Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk said the award went to a Queenslander under 25 who contributed towards a sustainable future.

Meat processor Teys Australia took out the night's top gong, the Premier's Award, for working to dramatically reduce its carbon footprint with two new state-of-the-art waste water treatment systems at its facilities in Beenleigh and Rockhampton.
