Bikie to face court on perjury charge

A bikie gang member acquitted over the infamous Broadbeach brawl will return to court to face a perjury charge.

Peter Mauric, who was found not guilty in May of riot after a lengthy trial, will be back at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Mauric's perjury charge stems from alleged conflicts in statements he made in a Crime and Corruption Commission hearing and then later at his trial.

Perjury carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment.

After his first appearance on the offence in September, Mauric's lawyer Zali Burrows told reporters she hoped the charge wasn't an abuse of process and that her client maintained his innocence.
