Bid to protect Brisbane building fails

The University of Queensland has failed in its bid to save Brisbane icon Customs House from sitting in the shadow of a soon to be built skyscraper.

Earlier this year UQ took the Brisbane City Council to court, arguing a proposed 47-storey building next to the heritage-listed, riverside Customs House was "out of scale and too close".

On Friday, the Planning and Environment Court dismissed UQ's application as there was "no merit" in its accusation that council officers had not properly assessed the development.
