Some residents are still waiting for flood waters to recede in a coastal town after a rain bomb smashed Queensland's south-east.

About 250mm to 300mm of rain fell across a broad area of the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay council areas on Tuesday.

Beachmere residents are expecting the town to take at least a week to dry out even thought it stopped raining about midday on Tuesday.

"There's probably two-foot, knee-high deep water under there still but yeah it will take a week or so to dry out I'd say," one resident told 9News.

At least one boat fell off its stands at Monty's Marina.

"We have got friends that live on boats down there so I thought I'd check in, see how they are getting on really," another resident said.

In some areas of Moreton Bay the downpour created more destruction than the 2022 disaster.

Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said systems could not handle the intense rain.

"It was a huge event that the capacity of our systems aren't able to cope with and none would be able to," Flannery said.

"The city's copped it again but we're resilient, we'll bounce back and hopefully get people's lives back to normal as soon as possible."

In Samford, the flooding left a thick sludge behind, which blanketed parts of the town.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting dry and partly cloud conditions for the Moreton Bay region until Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to have small amounts of rain.
