Beachgoers warned after Qld drowning

Beachgoers have been urged to be safe over the Easter weekend following the death of an elderly woman at an unpatrolled stretch of beach on the Sunshine Coast.

The woman, aged in her 70s, drowned at Alexandra Headland on Monday afternoon.

"Unfortunately it's a tragic and heartbreaking reminder about the importance of putting safety first at all times when you're in and around the water," said Surf Life Saving Queensland operations coordinator Jason Argent.
