No issue with Qld ballots after break-in

Electoral officials have verified the integrity of votes in the Mt Coot-tha electorate after an apparent break-in at a returning officer's building.

A check count was conducted after the Auchenflower premises of the Queensland Electoral Commission was found unlocked on Monday morning but police said there didn't appear to be any damage or items missing.

The Electoral Commission late on Monday issued a statement confirming there had "been no disturbance to the integrity of vote counting."

"All material in the office had been counted over the weekend and today's check count and audit confirms that figures remain unchanged," the statement said.

"In addition to the number of ballots on hand, the Commission can also confirm the authenticity of all ballots in the office."

The Mt Coot-tha district count will continue in line with the statewide count.
