Bailed Pisasale to return to court

Embattled former Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale will return to court next month to face charges stemming from allegations of corruption.

Pisasale was on Wednesday granted conditional bail to reside in a Brisbane medical facility after appearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on charges of perverting the course of justice.

He failed to appear at a hearing earlier in August.

The 65-year-old's bail application came after he was charged with two counts of perverting the course of justice over allegations he tried to have two witnesses, including former driver Stephen Potts, change statements to the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Pisasale is banned from contacting employees of Ipswich council and potential witnesses, aside from those he is related to, like his brother Charlie Pisasale, who is a councillor.

Pisasale is also facing charges of extortion and assault, but strongly denies the allegations and has repeatedly said he will fight them.

He is next due to appear in court on September 25.
