Backpackers flee after Brisbane fire

Backpackers have been forced to flee a Brisbane hostel after a fire broke out in the laundry, filling the building with smoke.

Everyone got out safely and no one was hurt. The blaze was out by the time fire crews arrived at the hostel in George Street in the CBD just before 6am on Friday.

Fire fighters remain at the scene, working to ventilate the building.
