Aust electricity trucks bound for Fiji

A fleet of electricity trucks is being ferried from Brisbane to Fiji as part of efforts to fast-track repairs of the island nation's battered energy network.

Up to 90 per cent of the network, including 27,800 power poles, was damaged when Cyclone Winston hit the country in late February.

The disaster claimed 43 lives and left thousands homeless.

Australian energy networks and the Fiji High Commission are sending seven heavy vehicles from Brisbane to Fiji on Tuesday.

The networks, including Energex and Ergon Energy, have contributed crane borers and elevated work platforms, while a further $270,000 in tools and equipment is also being sent.
