Alleged Qld one-punch victim out of coma

The victim of an alleged one-punch attack on the Gold Coast has regained consciousness after being brought out of a medically-induced coma.

Thomas Dover, 21, was allegedly struck from behind while walking through Surfers Paradise with a friend in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital.

"Thom has been taken out of the coma and finally responded well!!!" Mr Dover's sister, Candice, posted on Facebook.

"He's opened his eyes, nodded, waved and showed us his butt crack....and is now snoring as loud as ever!"

The hospital said Mr Dover is a serious but stable condition.

Previous attempts to bring Mr Dover out of the induced coma on Wednesday and Thursday were unsuccessful.

Mr Dover's family has thanked the hospital for their support and efforts throughout the ordeal.

"Again thank you for all your support, and the AMAZING Hospital staff who's been so very accommodating and absolute legends at their job," Candice wrote.

"They've gone above and beyond as have so many others!!!"

Three boys, aged, 14, 15 and 16, have each been charged over the incident and did not apply for bail on Thursday.

Police will allege that Mr Dover and a friend were walking through Surfers Paradise when they were verbally abused by a group of youths.

It's alleged that two of trio then turned around and followed Mr Dover and his friend.

Mr Dover was then allegedly punched in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the sidewalk.

Mr Dover had celebrated his 21st birthday with family and friends just one week earlier.
