Zhang's mother and brother were in the court for Monday's mention.

Police allege Zhang and his 53-year-old father grabbed the boy on May 11 as he walked to his home in Mudgeeraba from school.

Zhang was extradited to Queensland from Sydney on Friday and taken to the Southport watch house.

He has been charged with two counts of extortion and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and kidnapping for ransom.

His father Zheng Jie Zhang, 53, has been charged with six offences including kidnapping for ransom.

The 12-year-old was found in the northern NSW town of Grafton with the elder Zhang less than 24 hours after he was abducted.
