Accused woman mum killer in custody

A woman accused of shooting her elderly mother in the head will remain in custody before her next court appearance.

Maree Anne Blackwell, 46, was on Sunday charged with murder after Lesley Blackwell, 71, was found dead from a single gunshot wound at a property at Hope Vale, north of Cooktown, police said.

She did not appear or apply for bail on Monday when her matter came before Cairns Magistrates Court, where it is due to be mentioned on April 26.
