A man accused of shooting at a campervan, which had a tourist couple sleeping inside near Rockhampton, has been remanded in custody.

James DeMarco faced Rockhampton Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after he was charged with a string of offences, including possession of a registered firearm and drug utensils.

The 20-year-old was arrested after a New Zealand couple said they were forced to dive for cover on Monday morning after a vehicle shone its headlights into their van and two blasts rang out.

The pair weren't injured but the shots shattered the windshield and damaged the body of their van.

DeMarco is expected to reappear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday.
