Accountant 'stole' $3 million from work

A Brisbane accountant has been charged with siphoning more than $3 million from her employer.

Jo-Anne Therese Wilson, 48, faces 11 fraud charges and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrate Court on Friday.

It's alleged she fraudulently paid $3.19 million to herself in bonuses between 2005 and 2012 while employed at property investment company The Property Club.

In one year, Wilson's salary was $141,000 but she allegedly took home $334,000.

Her income another year was $292,000 but Wilson allegedly received as much as $711,000.

The accountant argues she was entitled to the money.

Her lawyer, Craig Chowdhury, told the court Wilson was engaged in Supreme Court civil proceedings with her former employer, and had been threatened in 2013 with fraud allegations.

She handed herself in to police on Thursday.

Applying for bail, Mr Chowdhury said Wilson had an 18-year-old daughter with severe epilepsy, a 15-year-old daughter and a husband who was a barrister.

Wilson was released on condition she surrender her passport and have no contact with witnesses apart from during the civil proceedings.

Her case was adjourned until September 15.
