2nd winter cyclone possible: BoM

There's a chance of a second winter cyclone forming this weekend but it won't threaten Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there could be a repeat of Cyclone Raquel, which earlier this month became the first July cyclone recorded in Queensland waters.

Raquel petered out and posed no threat to Queensland, and the system currently building off the Solomon Islands is also unlikely to pose any threat to the state.

"It is out there and it's got a reasonable environment for development," forecaster Jonte Hall has told the ABC.

"We could see something happen over this weekend but clearly it'll be no threat to Queensland as it is a long way off our coast."
