Qld teen charged over bonfire explosion

A 15-year-old boy has been charged over a bonfire explosion in Queensland that left two teens with horrific burns.

The pair, a 17-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy, have undergone extensive surgery after they were engulfed in flames when an accelerant was poured on an open fire at a party on August 25, last year.

The girl sustained third-degree burns to 60 per cent of her body.

At the time, paramedics said others at the party at Harristown, near Toowoomba west of Brisbane, probably saved her life by throwing her into a swimming pool.

The boy suffered serious burns to 40 per cent of his body.

Two other teenagers suffered minor burns in the incident.

Police on Wednesday charged a 15-year-old boy with two counts of grievous bodily harm. He'll be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
