Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt says the impact of natural disasters on his state should be considered when the GST is allocated.

Mr Pitt will be discussing funding to the states when he meets with his state counterparts and federal Treasurer Joe Hockey in Canberra on Thursday.

Queensland's budget has taken a multibillion-dollar hit since the 2010-11 summer of natural disasters.

"We believe that the heavy impact of these events should be taken into account by the Commonwealth Grants Commission in determining Queensland's share of GST," Mr Pitt said.

He will also be arguing that state governments opposed to privatisation should still be entitled to their share of infrastructure funding.

The federal government is encouraging state asset sales by providing a bonus if the money is spent on infrastructure.
