Qld's Ebola response tested in mock drill

Queensland health authorities are using a mock case of Ebola to test the state's capacity to deal with the deadly virus.

In the training drill, a pretend Ebola patient will be airlifted from Roma in southern Queensland to Brisbane in a simulation of how authorities would deal with a real suspected case.

The "patient" will be transported in an isolation pod to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital by health workers wearing protective suits. They are expected to arrive in Brisbane late on Wednesday afternoon.

The full-day exercise has been designed by Queensland Health to help authorities prepare for a potential local case of Ebola.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young is expected to brief the media on Thursday about the exercise.

The Ebola outbreak across West Africa has claimed nearly 5000 lives, according to the World Health Organisation, though this figure is likely underestimated.

There have been no cases of the disease in Australia so far.

Three people have been tested in Queensland after travelling from Africa and suffering Ebola-like symptoms, but all returned negative tests.
