Queensland power bills to rise by $191

Queenslanders' average annual power bill will increase by $191.

The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) has released its recommended price rises for the next financial year.

Typical residential customers would face a price increase of 13.6 per cent.

Small businesses will pay about 12 per cent more, with annual bills coming in $220 higher.

The QCA also modelled what consumers would pay with and without the carbon tax.

Removing the tax will cut foreshadowed price increases by $120.

QCA chairman Malcolm Roberts says the wholesale cost of providing electricity and the solar bonus payment is pushing up prices.

"Price increases are unavoidable to keep pace with rising costs," he said.
