Qld men jailed over fatal shooting

Two men who shot a northwest Queensland man and dumped him outside a hospital have been jailed.

Mount Isa man Aaron MacFarlane, 30, staggered into Mount Isa Base Hospital on the night of January 3, 2012, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

He underwent emergency surgery but died the following day.

Aaron Jon Woodsbey and Sean Murray Hopkins were charged with his manslaughter, and Laura Louise Waller with being an accessory after the fact of manslaughter.

All three pleaded guilty and were sentenced in the Supreme Court in Mt Isa on Thursday.

Woodsbey was sentenced to a combined 18 years' jail for manslaughter, drug trafficking and weapons charges, and Hopkins was handed a seven-year prison term for manslaughter, a court official told AAP on Friday.

No parole eligibility date was set for Woodsbey while Hopkins will be eligible for parole in October next year.

Waller, who gave a false alibi to police, was sentenced to 18 months' jail and will be eligible for parole in August.

Police alleged MacFarlane was shot in the chest on a remote dirt road near George Fisher Mine, 20km outside Mount Isa, and was then driven into the city and dumped outside the hospital.
