Queenslander on seven attempted murder charges

A Queensland man is expected to undergo psychiatric testing after allegedly ploughing his prime-mover into a house, and setting it on fire.

Seven people were inside the Oakhurst home, on the outskirts of Maryborough, when it was torched in the March attack, police say.

They all got out, but a 16-year-old girl sustained burns to one third of her body.

Denis Ian Harris, 53, has been charged with 16 offences, including seven counts of attempted murder.

He is in custody but the case was heard in his absence in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

His Legal Aid representative, Vinton Pedley, asked for a six-week extension for further testing to be done.

"I'm seeking a psychiatric report," he told the court.

Mr Pedley argued against a push by the Director of Public Prosecutions to move a committal hearing to Maryborough, as Harris is continuing treatment for burns in a Brisbane hospital.

Because of the severity of Harris' injuries, police are yet to take photos, fingerprints or do DNA testing.

Magistrate John Costello issued an order for the tests and wants Harris to remain in Brisbane for now.

The matter was adjourned until June 2.
