A Queensland man has been charged over claims he had a bomb in his car and fleeing police.

The 28-year-old called a Gladstone business on Thursday night making threats about having explosives.

When police attempted to approach the man, they say he rammed his car into the police car.

He was intercepted a short time later on the Dawson Highway.

"The surrounding area was evacuated and specialists cleared the vehicle," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Police will allege that the same vehicle was involved in damaging two other police vehicles earlier in the day.

The man is due to face the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Saturday on wilful damage, evade police and bomb hoax offences.
