Qld emergency depts best in country: govt

Waiting times in the Ipswich and Mater hospital emergency departments are the shortest in the country, Queensland's government says.

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg says a report by the National Health Performance Authority (NHPA) shows that 19 state hospitals improved emergency department performance between 2012 and 2013.

The NHPA Report reviews the number of patients who depart emergency within four hours of arrival across 112 of Australia's public hospitals.

Mr Springborg says the figure was 82 per cent for Brisbane's Mater Hospital and 80 per cent for Ipswich Hospital.

"The results are further independent validation that the Queensland Health continues to make massive efficiency gains and improvements under the Newman government," he said in a statement.
