Police say Brisbane murder victim French

A young woman found murdered in a Brisbane park last week is believed to be a French student.

But it's still unclear if 21-year-old Sophie Collombet was randomly attacked, if she was robbed, or if she was sexually assaulted.

Her naked body was found in a rotunda near South Bank early on Friday.

Police believe she died from a brain injury caused by being bashed with a blunt instrument.

"It's disgusting. You look at car accidents and they're bad enough and sudden," Detective Inspector Rodd Kemp told reporters.

"But for someone to be brutally attacked in this manner, it's just disgraceful."

Police are yet to find her clothes or a murder weapon, and have no suspects yet.

But investigators believe the woman is a French national who arrived in February last year on a study visa.

Her flatmates have reported her as missing and her parents say that jewellery on the body is the same as their daughter's.

The woman left home on Thursday morning with a large shoulder bag, which is also yet to be found.

She was last seen alive on CCTV footage in the inner city between 2am and 3am (AEST) on Friday.

The woman is the fourth young foreigner to be murdered in Brisbane in recent months, but Premier Campbell Newman said visitors from overseas had nothing to fear.

"I believe it is safe not only for international students, but for Brisbane students," he said.

"Thankfully they found offenders in those other situations."
