Qld bikie laws appealing: SA govt

South Australia will look to strengthen its anti-bikie laws with the High Court upholding Queensland's legislation.

Attorney-General John Rau says he's keen to follow Queensland's lead in giving parliament the power to declare criminal organisations, rather than the courts.

"Given the difficulty and complexity associated with making declarations through the courts, obviously that's appealing from our point of view," he told reporters on Friday.

"We'd be crazy not to take advantage of that and make some modifications to our laws."

Mr Rau has asked the state's solicitor-general to provide formal advice on the ruling, with the aim of taking potential changes to cabinet as soon as possible.

He said it was time-consuming and onerous to have a gang declared a criminal organisation through the courts.

"Anything that disrupts the behaviour of criminal groups, whether they ride motorbikes or pushbikes ... is in the public interest," Mr Rau said.

Former SA premier Mike Rann introduced what he described as the "world's toughest anti-bikie legislation" in 2008, declaring it illegal to be a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang.

The laws prompted gangs including the Hells Angels, Gypsy Jokers, Rebels, Finks and Descendants to unite in protest.
