Qld A-G appeals against basher's sentence

A man jailed for bashing two cancer patients outside a Brisbane pub could face more time behind bars after Queensland's attorney-general ordered an appeal.

Dylan Bradley Castle, 25, was sentenced in the District Court this month to four-and-a-half years jail, and would be eligible for parole after 18 months, for the attack outside the Victory Hotel in Brisbane's city centre in July 2013.

It left Graham Law, 64, and brother-in-law Terrence White, 73, with broken bones.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie says Castle's sentence is "manifestly inadequate, is not in line with community expectations, does not set an adequate deterrent and must be appealed".

The matter is with the Director of Public Prosecutions.

During his sentencing, it emerged Castle committed the unprovoked assault after seeing his victims leave the pub and telling them they were "too old" to be there.

The pair had met at the pub for dinner before scheduled doctor appointments the next day.
