Today was a special day for Qantas - not only the airline's 94th birthday, but also a landmark flight for one of its most distinguished pilots.

After 45-years in the cockpit, Captain Laurie Shears who is the world’s most experienced 747-400 pilot landed at Sydney Airport for the final time today.

“I'll miss a lot of the people, a lot of the pilots, and a lot of the cabin crew that I've flown with,” Mr Shears said.

Mr Laurie’s son Rob was right beside him as co-pilot on his final flight from Los Angeles to Sydney.

“I feel very proud of my dad and I feel honoured to do his last flight ever,” he said.
