'Like it was fed to pitbulls': Qantas compensates customer after $2000 baggage damage

A Queensland traveller whose bag came out of an airport carousel looking like it 'had been fed to a bunch of pitbulls [and] hyenas' has finally received compensation from Qantas.

Andrew Glykidis was flying home from Sydney on August 1 when he "saw a bag of [his] belongings sitting on the carousel", only it wasn't his original bag.

Instead, his belongings had been repacked into plastic bags and wrapped up with Qantas branded orange tape.

He said at the time it "was a little embarrassing".

The 31-year-old architectural draftsman told Today, he contacted Qantas "like crazy" following the incident, trying to get reimbursed for the damaged and lost items, estimated at a value of $2000.

"I have sent about 654 emails with no response," he joked. 

"It's been a nightmare, going around in circles with the same call centre."

However, Glykidis' luck changed yesterday after 9news.com.au published the story.

"When the article went live, Qantas said they will reimburse me for the contents, bags and a $500 voucher," he said.

Glykidis admitted he is relieved the saga is over, but wished the process wasn't so frustrating. 

"I would have appreciated [it] if someone said something.

"Just come out and tell me rather than me having to deal with the aftermath."
