Qantas choir members marry 18 years after starring in iconic advertisement

Eighteen years ago, Ell and Paul Van der Toorren met while singing at Uluru as part of the iconic Qantas advertisement, ‘I Still Call Australia Home’.

The then-nine-year-olds performed as part of the choir in the 1991 advertisement, and had no idea they would eventually reconnect and marry.

They were reunited in high school through mutual friends, and began dating.

"Funnily enough we had been living close together but not realised it for years," Ell told the TODAY Show.

Mr Van der Toorren proposed at Uluru last year, and the couple have since married.

This morning, they spoke to the TODAY Show about their wedding.

They said they thanked Paul’s mother during the ceremony.

"We thanked my mum for making me join a choir," Mr Van der Toorren said.

"I probably wouldn’t have [otherwise]."

Ms Van der Toorren described the wedding day as "quite emotional".

"We cried many, many times," she said.
