High-speed pursuit ends in head-on collision, tearing engine from car

A man is currently on the run after colliding with a parked truck while trying to evade police.

Police initially noticed the man driving erratically on Bennett Road in the suburb of St Clair, and attempted to pull him over.

The driver then immediately accelerated away from the police.

As quickly as it started, the pursuit ended almost immediately over safety fears once speeds exceeded 100km/h on suburban streets.

Police eventually caught up with the white Commodore after it struck a parked truck head-on.

Remarkably the driver, believed to be in his 20s, was able to climb out of the wreck and continue fleeing on foot.

The force of impact was so severe that the engine was ejected from the car, eventually ending up smashing into the windscreen of a nearby parked car.

Police are still currently looking for the driver.
