Concertgoers revel in 'doofnado' at rural Victorian dance festival

Revellers at a dance festival in rural Victoria have been forced to contend with a mini-tornado as they danced up a storm over the weekend.

Punters at Earthcore 2015, held in the town of Pyalong, 100km north of Melbourne, were hit with the freak wind gust yesterday, and followed the 'doofnado' as it moved threateningly along the grass.

Rather than avoiding the eye of the storm, a group rush toward it, dancing around it as music booms in the background.

The whirlwind, known as a dust devil, is a localised dirt filled vortex that looks like a scaled down version of a tornado.

Dust devils are generally smaller in size compared to tornados and far less powerful, with winds reaching a maximum of about 100km/h.

The five-day Earthcore festival has been billed as a 'dance music, lifestyle, culture, arts experience'.
