Pungent peak hour after motorway offal spill

Drivers travelling southbound on Brisbane's Gateway Motorway are set for a smelly time behind the wheel following a truck spill that unleashed offal along the motorway earlier this afternoon.

While the exact amount of offal is unknown, it managed to spread across three lanes.

Emergency services were called shortly after 2pm when the truck lost some of its load while driving southbound near Rochedale.

"The offal is more awful than expected south bound lanes are still being affected and clean-up is in progress," Queensland Traffic tweeted.

"Long delays from the Port of Brisbane. Like hot offal in the sun, avoid it like a bad smell."

Police have closed two lanes of the three-lane motorway to clean up the "slippery" mess.

Traffic speeds have been reduced to 60km/h.
