Prisoner on the run in SA after removing monitoring device while on funeral leave

A prisoner is on the run in South Australia after he removing his monitoring device while on special leave to attend a funeral.

Robert Rigney, 33, was on remand at Yatala Labour Prison and was granted court-ordered home detention release to attend a funeral last week.

"He has since removed his monitoring device and is considered unlawfully at large," an SA police statement said.

Mr Rigney is Aboriginal and 176 cm tall, with a medium build, black hair and blue eyes.

Police have appealed for Mr Rigney to hand himself in at a police station, or for members of the public to report any sightings of him immediately.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Police Assistance line on 131 444.
