Prison escapee at large in Northern Territory

A 20-year-old inmate continues to commit crimes after escaping from an Alice Springs prison more than a week ago, police say.

Jermaine Austral and a 23-year-old fellow inmate escaped from Alice Springs Correctional Centre on December 23.

The other man was arrested at an nearby residence on Christmas Day, but Austral remains on the run.

He has allegedly been involved in criminal activity since the escape, Detective Superintendent Michael White said.

"His last known sighting was yesterday on Lovegrove Drive in Alice Springs," Detective Supt. White said.

"We urge members of the public, family members or friends who may know the whereabouts of Austral to contact police immediately."

Austral is described as having an Indigenous appearance with a slim build and is about 160cm tall.

Members of the public are advised not to approach Austral, but instead contact police.
