No post-Hazelwood power shortfalls:Andrews

Victoria's premier has dismissed as "worst-case scenarios" suggestions the state could face 72 days of blackouts in the next two years.

Figures from the Australian Energy Market Operator, obtained by Fairfax Media, show the state's energy security will become increasingly "fragile" following the closure of the Hazelwood coal-fired power plant.

To avoid outages, the shortfall will likely be made up from power supplies from NSW and Tasmania.

Premier Daniel Andrews maintained Victoria would maintain a surplus of power and continue to be an energy exporter.

He told ABC radio the state government had invested in a range of renewable energy projects to allow for "additional instantaneous back-up".

"So we will have more power than is needed. That is a fact," he said on Thursday.
